Summary

Gokū, enraged by the death of his best friend, vows revenge. Taking the dragon radar from Bulma, she boards the Kintoun and flies out of the Tenkaichi Budōkai arena, despite Muten Rōshi's order to stay. Looking at the radar, Gokū tracks the Dragon Ball's moving signal. Oolong found a piece of paper on the ground with "魔" (Ma; "devil") written in a circle. Muten Rōshi recognizes the symbol immediately; it is the sign of Piccolo, the Great Demon King.
Muten Rōshi explains the origin of Piccolo, a terrible demon who reveled in death and destruction. Many years ago, his own teacher Mutaito developed a secret technique to seal Piccolo in a rice cooker. This technique was referred to as Mafūba. Unfortunately, it came at the cost of Mutaito's life. Muten Rōshi doesn't understand how Piccolo could have escaped when he dropped the rice cooker to the bottom of the sea.
An airship is flying in the sky. Inside the ship is the demon Piccolo himself, sitting on an ornate throne. His goal is to find the Dragon Balls so he can achieve eternal youth and allow his evil to rule forever. Inside the ship with Piccolo is the Pilaf Gang, who incidentally are responsible for freeing Piccolo. Pilaf negotiates a portion of the world with Piccolo, hoping to secure his place as ruler when Piccolo himself takes power; Piccolo agrees to consider Pilaf's proposal for "a third" of the world before destroying the stove in which he was imprisoned. Piccolo declares his intention to kill all martial arts masters.
Muten Rōshi and the others are the key to Piccolo's intentions; out of fear of Mafūba, he intends to kill every single person on the registration list. Just as they reach this revelation, Gokū manages to make contact with Kuririn's killer.
