What Is the Dragon Ball Super Manga About?
Dragon Ball Super takes place after the defeat of Majin Buu. Goku keeps training. Vegeta refuses to fall behind. Their search for stronger opponents draws the attention of Beerus the God of Destruction.
The early arcs adapt the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F movies and then move into brand new stories. Goku Black terrorizes the future timeline. The Tournament of Power pits Universe 7 against warriors from across the multiverse. Jiren pushes Goku to unlock Ultra Instinct.
Then the manga goes fully original. The Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc introduces Moro. He is an ancient wizard who eats planets to gain power. The Granolah arc follows the last survivor of the Cerealians as he hunts the Saiyans. It ends with a shock. Frieza returns in a new Black form and defeats Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta with single blows.
These later arcs were never adapted into anime. The manga is the only place where this part of the story exists. Toyotarou’s detailed manga panels give these battles a weight the anime never showed.
Is the Dragon Ball Manga Still on Hiatus? (2026 Status)
Yes. As of October 2026 the Dragon Ball Super manga free is on an indefinite hiatus. There is no announced return date.
The hiatus began in March 2024 after the passing of Akira Toriyama. He was the original creator of Dragon Ball and the story writer for Super. Shueisha paused the series out of respect while the future of the manga was planned.
Chapter 104 came out in February 2025. It was a special standalone story about Goten and Trunks. It remains the latest chapter. Chapter 105 has no release date. The manga was also absent from the October 2026 issue of V Jump.
There is still hope. Illustrator Toyotarou has said he is working toward resuming serialization. The series is on hiatus and not cancelled. The story is expected to continue.
