Summary

After Gokū, Kulilin, Yamcha, and Jackie Chun find their places in the tournament group, the rules and regulations are announced as everyone heads to their respective blocks. Yamcha goes first in the preliminary round, followed by Kulilin, and both manage to knock out their opponents in one move. While earning Goku's praise, the two also receive criticism from Tenshinhan, a student of Muten Rōshi's rival, Tsuru Sennin.

After mixed reactions from the school's turtles, Tenshinhan begins his match, defeating his opponent in a series of almost undetectable moves. While Gokū is stunned and Kulilin is unimpressed, Tenshinhan reveals that he was holding back. Goku's match is over, and he faces the deadly King Chapa, who supposedly won the Tenka-Ichi Budōkai unscathed. Goku and King Chapa face each other at the beginning of the match.
